QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

Required to be appointed:

  • B Degree or equivalent qualification specialising in industrial relations.

  • Six years HR generalist supervisory experience.

  • Excellent knowledge of labour legislation and the CCMA rules and regulations.

  • Legal background will be advantageous.

Advantageous:

  • Extensive experience in wage negotiations and the resolution thereof will be advantageous.

  • Computer literate with an exposure to VIP HR Premier will be advantageous.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the industrial relations function and ensure compliance to legislation.

  • To develop and implement structures, policies and procedures that will result in fair and consistent labour practices and ensures communication between management and employees.

  • To provide training and information to line managers and HR officers.

  • To manage union activities and relevant logistics pertaining to the collective bargaining process.

  • Ensure that labour disputes and grievances are minimised.

  • Conduct research to stay abreast of national and international legislation.

  • Promote innovative and continuous improvement in IR practices.

  • To liaise with government departments and internal relevant service providers in order to seek partnerships when implementing Wellness projects.

  • To assist in identifying and evaluating possible ER projects.

  • To advise management on the legislation and mining charter.

  • To manage communication process.

  • To ensure smooth running in pension/provident administration

  • Employment Relations (ER) Strategy – manage processes involved in implementation of the employee relations strategy.

  • Employee Relations Advice – manage the flow of information and advice regarding employee relations matters which are provided to organised labour and direct line supervisors.

  • Relationships – managing the processes involved in supporting formal trade union relationships.

  • Negotiations – managing processes that implement bargaining council agreements and handling strikes in a mine environment.

  • Grievances and conflict – manage processes to keep employees and managers advised of grievance handling procedures.

  • Disciplinary cases – manage disciplinary processes to ensure a speedy resolution and maintaining consistency across the operation.

  • Dismissals and unfair labour practices – manages the dismissals and Unfair Labour Practice processes to ensure speedy resolution.

  • Restructuring – ensures that agreements around restructuring are correctly recorded and implemented.

  • Facilitate employee wellness through effective utilisation of EAP and clinic facilities

  • Conduct in/out area of responsibilities reports i.e. AWOPs; Sick leave; etc

  • Facilitate departmental/organisational change management.
